Merit E. "Mutt" Leming, 90, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Dec. 16, 2012, at Southeast Hospital.
He was born Jan. 14, 1922, in Cape Girardeau to William E. and Lela G. Leming. He met and married Ann Warren Leming in 1950. She passed away in 2002.
Merit was a World War II Army veteran.
He worked in the family farming businesses in Missouri and Texas. While in Missouri, he was employed by Fabick Tractor Co. and Harris Truck and Trailer Co. He was a member of the Rotary Club, Tower Club, Safe House board and an active member of La Croix United Methodist Church.
Merit was an avid fisherman and loved to cook. His love for the Lord and his family was most important to him. Merit was a well-respected role model to all who knew him.
Loving survivors include a daughter, Laura (Chuck) McGinty; a son, William E. (Susan) Leming; three grandchildren, Charles P. (Jessica) McGinty III, Samuel L. (Katie) McGinty and Abigail Y. (Jeffrey) Kohlberg; a great-grandson, Warren McGinty; and dear friends, Jean Mabrey and Jack Lamkin, who was like a brother.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William E. Leming Jr. and John G. Leming.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Wednesday at La Croix United Methodist Church.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park with full military rites to be conducted.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to La Croix United Methodist Church, the Safe House for Women or Teen Challenge.
