MELVIN THORN

Melvin W. Thorn, 72, 776 W. Rodney, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center. He was born June 21, 1924, in Jackson, son of Delbert and Jewel Niswonger Thorn. He and Gertrude Tucker were married Aug. 23, 1947, at Jackson. Thorn worked at Superior Electric 36 years. He was a life member of VFW Post 3838, and attended First Assembly of God Church in Jackson. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II...

Melvin W. Thorn, 72, 776 W. Rodney, died Wednesday, Oct. 23, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born June 21, 1924, in Jackson, son of Delbert and Jewel Niswonger Thorn. He and Gertrude Tucker were married Aug. 23, 1947, at Jackson.

Thorn worked at Superior Electric 36 years. He was a life member of VFW Post 3838, and attended First Assembly of God Church in Jackson. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater during World War II.

Survivors include his wife, and a sister, Lucille Cutright of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and two brothers.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the chapel, with the Revs. Gary Petty and Dean Heady officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
