FARRAR, Mo. -- Melvin E. Meier, 82, of Farrar died Sunday, March 10, 2002, at Perry County Nursing Home in Perryville, Mo. He was born Jan. 24, 1920, at Farrar, son of Joseph and Katharine Mahnken Meier. He and Helen Biester were married April 23, 1950. She died March 27, 1988.
Meier was a retired automobile mechanic. He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Farrar, and American Legion Post 133 in Perryville.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include three sons, James Meier of Steeleville, Ill., John Meier of Collinsville, Ill., Steve Meier of Farrar; a brother, Raymond Meier of Frohna; a sister, Helen Guth of Cape Girardeau; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Friends may call at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville from 4 to 9 p.m. today, and Wednesday from 6:30 to 8 a.m. Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Scheider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
