DELTA -- Melvin M. Slinkard, 81, of Delta, died Wednesday, May 10, 1995, at his home.
He was born Aug. 30, 1913, at Hickory Ridge in Cape Girardeau County, son of David Guy and Ollie L. McClain Slinkard. He and Juanita E. Pennington were married May 3, 1936, in Jonesboro, Ill. She died Dec. 19, 1989.
Slinkard was a concrete finisher with Local 908 in Cape Girardeau, and had worked at Max Stovall, Nip Kelley Construction, Thiele Concrete Co., Drury Companies, Kiefner Construction, and worked many years at Noranda in New Madrid.
He also farmed 30 years in the Allenville community. He lived in Crump 26 years, and had lived the past nine years at Delta.
Survivors include a son, Philip "Laddie" Slinkard of Whitewater; a daughter, Joyce Moore of Delta; two brothers, Weldon Slinkard of Jackson, Norman Slinkard of Delta; five sisters, Bette Crites, Pat Statler and Jane Klaus of Jackson, Novella Howell of Delta, Gladys Bond of Shell Knob; five grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a grandson.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel in Cape Girardeau after 4 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. C.B. Stidham officiating. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery at Cape Girardeau.
