JACKSON -- Melvin A. "Mel" Kintner, 83, died Monday, July 7, 1997, at the home of a daughter in Wakarusa, Kan.
He was born Dec. 28, 1913, in Topeka, Kan., son of Ora and Alice Pearl Cloud Kintner. He and Maxine Campbell were married Nov. 7, 1946. She died Feb. 26, 1994.
Kintner retired from Santa Fe Railroad in June 1974, and then owned and operated Tag-It Engraving in Jackson.
He had resided in Kansas the past three years. He was a member of Philip Billard VFW Post 1650, Grace Episcopal Church, Moose Lodge 555, KAW Valley Woodcarvers Association, Santa Fe Old Timers Club, all of Topeka; and American Legion Post in Richland, Kan. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include two sons, Robert Kintner of Jackson, Lt. Col. Mark Kintner of Penn Valley, Calif.; three daughters, Sandra DeForge of Williamson, N.Y., Patricia Smith of Wakarusa, Judith Nenninger of Burfordville; a sister, Leona Whitley of Fort Myers, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a twin sister, a granddaughter, and two brothers.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. Thursday, and Friday from 8:30-10:30 a.m.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Brant Hazlett officiating.
