Melvin Eddy Henderson, 77, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at his home. He was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Thebes, Illinois, to Melvin C. and Nellie Bailey Henderson. He and Lawanda Bledsoe were married Aug. 6, 1956, in Jackson. Melvin was a member of Church of God Fellowship in Cape Girardeau. He had been a truck driver with Red Ball Express. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was passionate about the St. Louis Cardinals...

Melvin Eddy Henderson, 77, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, June 25, 2014, at his home.

He was born Aug. 18, 1936, in Thebes, Illinois, to Melvin C. and Nellie Bailey Henderson. He and Lawanda Bledsoe were married Aug. 6, 1956, in Jackson.

Melvin was a member of Church of God Fellowship in Cape Girardeau. He had been a truck driver with Red Ball Express. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and was passionate about the St. Louis Cardinals.

Survivors include his wife, Lawanda Henderson of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Darren (LaDona) Henderson of Cape Girardeau and Chris (Dianna) Henderson of Scott City; four daughters, Vanessa Jaco of Cape Girardeau, Twila (Ed) Koerber and Eddy (Allan) Douglas of Scopus, Missouri, and Veronica (Perry) Dietiker of Cape Girardeau; four brothers, Wayne Henderson of Mounds, Illinois, Paul Henderson of America, Illinois, Benny Henderson and Kenny Henderson of Mounds; two sisters, Barbara Coleson of Mounds and Sharon Henderson of Villa Ridge, Illinois; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a sister.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Rick Parrish officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Thebes.

Memorial contributions may be given to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
