Melvin F. Goetz, 83, of Chaffee, Mo., died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Sept. 20, 1924, to August Gregory and Agatha Marie Bucher Goetz. He and Bertha Marie Martin were married Oct. 9, 1943.
Goetz worked in the receiving department at Superior Electric in Cape Girardeau and was a self-employed farmer. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, Mo., and also of St. Joseph Sodality.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, William (Bill) Goetz of Maryland Heights, Mo., and Larry Goetz of Chaffee; a brother, Norbert Goetz of Fenton, Mo.; three sisters, Shirley Keesee of Scott City, Mary Ann Eftink of Oran, Mo., Doris Jean Brakefield of Bonita Springs, Fla.; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Goetz was preceded in death by a sister, a grandson and his parents.
Visitation will be at 4 p.m. and parish prayers are at 6:30 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Home in Chaffee.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in New Hamburg, Mo., with the Rev. Normand Varone officiating. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Catholic Cemetery in New Hamburg.
