Melvin Ray Dockins, 71, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at his home.
He was born Jan. 2, 1942, in Sikeston, Mo., to Chalmer A. and Evelyn McClellan Dockins. He and Ruth A. Link were married Nov. 17, 1962, in Sikeston.
Melvin was a graduate of Sikeston High School. He was a self-employed contractor and member of La Croix United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth A. Dockins of Cape Girardeau; two sons, Mel (Kristine) Dockins Jr. of Cape Girardeau and Matthew Link (Karla) Dockins of Wentzville, Mo.; a brother, Norman Lee Dockins of Texas; a sister, Coyita Lynette (Randy) Thomas of Sikeston; four grandchildren, Garrett and Austin Dockins of Wentzville and Megan and Melanie Dockins of Cape Girardeau; and a great-grandchild, Cooper Dockins of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Douglas Dockins.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories in Sikeston.
Memorial contributions may be given to the Alzheimer's Association or to the American Cancer Society.
