PERRYVILLE -- Melvin L. Cissell, 79, of Perryville died Sunday, Dec. 13, 1998, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 14, 1919, in Perryville, son of Leonard and Otilia J. Huber Cissell. He and Frances Berkbuegler were married Nov. 28, 1946, in Perryville.
Cissell had been a trimmer at International Shoe Co., and also farmed. After retiring he worked at Miller Family Funeral Home.
He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 133, VFW Post 4282, and was a 4th Degree member of Knights of Columbus.
Cissell served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He received the Good Conduct Medal, American Service Medal, Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with a Bronze Service Star, and a Bronze Service Arrowhead.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, James Cissell of Bartlett, Tenn., Dennis and David Cissell of Springfield; three daughters, Patricia Thompson and Agnes Halfmann of St. Louis, Donna Adams of Perryville; two sisters, Iona Wibbenmeyer of Perryville, Rita Sauer of St. Louis; 16 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, two sisters, and a granddaughter.
Friends may call at Miller Family Funeral Home from 4-9 p.m. today, and Wednesday from 6:30-8:50 a.m. The parish wake will be at 6 p.m. today, followed by the American Legion service at 6:15, and VFW service at 6:30. The rosary will be recited at 8 a.m. Wednesday.
Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent's Church, with the Rev. Richard Lause officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.
