PARSONS, Kan. -- Mearl B. Steen, 92, of Parsons died Sunday, April 21, 1996, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor. He was born June 27, 1903, near Ottawa, to Frank and Lula Stover Steen. He was married to Cora Bonar in 1971 in Minneapolis. Steen graduated from the William Institute of Mortuary Science in Kansas City in 1928 and later from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he received a degree in life insurance marketing. PARSONS, Kan. -- Mearl B. Steen, 92, of Parsons died Sunday, April 21, 1996, at Parsons Presbyterian Manor.

He was born June 27, 1903, near Ottawa, to Frank and Lula Stover Steen. He was married to Cora Bonar in 1971 in Minneapolis.

Steen graduated from the William Institute of Mortuary Science in Kansas City in 1928 and later from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where he received a degree in life insurance marketing. He was an insurance agent until his retirement.

Steen was a member of Parsons Lodge 117, A.F. and A.M.; the Scottish Rite Consistory of Fort Scott; and the Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Don Steen of Sedalia, Mo.; a daughter, Linda Hill of Cape Girardeau; a stepson, Darrell Bonar of Hastings, Neb.; four stepdaughters, Gail Howard and Carol Ewing, both of Lincoln, Neb., Judy Stutesman of Roseland, Neb., and Shirley Butz of Holdrege, Neb.; a brother, Orliff Steen of Crete, Neb.; two sisters, Opal Pohl of Lawrence and Geneva Van Valkenburg of Montezuma; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 12 step-grandchildren; and 13 step-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Parsons Monday evening and Tuesday morning.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. James Spon officiating. Burial, with Masonic rites, will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Parsons.
