Maxine E. Smith, 102, of Delta passed away Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, at Chaffee Nursing Center.
She was born July 4, 1911, in Advance, Mo., daughter of George and Mella Reed Chapman. Maxine and Karl E. Smith were married May 20, 1933. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Maxine graduated from Advance High School in 1930. Shortly after graduation she was briefly employed as a teacher at Woodlawn School in Brownwood, Mo. She was an accomplished seamstress. She was an Avon representative in the Delta and surrounding areas several years. She had been a member of Delta Senior Citizens since its inception. Maxine joined and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Delta in 1963. She was the oldest living member of the church.
Survivors include a daughter, Bobbie K. (Joe) Locke of Delta; two grandsons, Kenneth Jeffrey (Dana) Houseman and Joe Bob Locke; a great-granddaughter, Jessica S. Houseman; a brother, Bill S. Chapman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; five brothers, Reed, Ford, Aquilla, Ben and Jack Chapman; two sisters, Myrene Wilkinson and Leita Kiehn.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Eric Hodge officiating. Burial will be in Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
