Maxine Wise Shockley, 88, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, May 5, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center.
She was born Dec. 24, 1912, in Mt. Vernon, Mo., daughter of Robert and Clara Wise Hughes. She and Ivan Shockley were married in 1936, at Eldon, Mo. He died Sept. 30, 1987.
After graduating from college, Maxine worked as a medical librarian at Missouri State Tuberculosis Hospital in Mt. Vernon. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mt. Vernon, and was past worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Sue Shockley of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren, Cheryl and Leroy Shenimann of Jackson, Mo., Steve Shockley of Cape Girardeau, Patty LaForest of Maumelle, Ark., Terry and Aprill Shockley of O'Fallon, Mo.; seven great-grandchildren, Lucas Shenimann, Jacob Shenimann, Aaron Shockley, Logan Shockley, Brett LaForest, Josh LaForest and Joseph Shockley.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
There is no visitation.
Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at IOOF Cemetery in Mt. Vernon. The Rev. Sandra Nenadal will officiate.
Fossett Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon is in charge of the service.
