Maurine Brunkhorst, 86, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. She was born June 21, 1923 in Ancell, Mo., to Charles Welter and Regina Essner Welter. She and John C. Brunkhorst were married March 9, 1943, in Boise, Idaho. Maurine Brunkhorst, 86, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Dec. 24, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

She was born June 21, 1923 in Ancell, Mo., to Charles Welter and Regina Essner Welter.

She and John C. Brunkhorst were married March 9, 1943, in Boise, Idaho. He preceded her in death Jan. 25, 1990.

She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral and St. Ann's Sodality. She worked for the Southeast Missourian for 35 years.

Survivors include a son, John Brunkhorst of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Cindy (Terry) Schnurbusch and Connie Miles, both of Cape Girardeau; grandchildren, Andrea (Kevin) Kester of Friedheim, Mo., Jeff (Amanda) Meystedt of Oran, Mo. and Holly Schnurbusch of Dallas; great-grandchildren, Allison Miles of Friedheim, Jason Meystedt of Cape Girardeau, Kyle Meystedt and Kelsie Meystedt of Jackson, Brody Meystedt and Landon Stanberry of Oran, William Kester of Friedheim; and a great-great- grandchild, Berklee Miles, of Friedheim.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and three sisters.

Visitation and funeral services with Fr. Tom Kiefer were held at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Chapel on Sunday, Dec. 27, 2009.

Burial was at Cape County Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Humane Society of Southeast Missouri or Safe Harbor Animal Sanctuary.
