CHARLESTON - Charleston resident Mattie Mae Green, 54, died Saturday, April 11, 1992 at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Her death followed a brief illness.
She was born Oct. 14, 1937 in Tupelo, Miss. to the late Thornton and Mattie Henson Gardner. She had lived in Charleston since 1948.
Green was a member of Mercy Seat Baptist Church in Charleston, where she served on the usher board.
Six sons and nine daughters survive. The sons are Jimmy Betts of Kalamazoo, Mich.; and John Betts, Willie Green, Charles Green, Jerome Green and Lynn Green, all of Charleston.
The daughters are Bernice Hamilton and Michelle Green of Kalamazoo; and Susie Thompson, Roxie Anderson, Mildred Moore, Lois Clark, Lisa Green, Vatisha Green and Paula Green, all of Charleston.
Also surviving are sisters Vera Gardner of Charleston and Lillie Gardner of Lansing, Mich.; a brother, James Gardner of Charleston; and 43 grandchildren and five great, great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Sparks Funeral Home in Charleston. Funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Mercy Seat. The Rev. J.L. Posey will officiate.
Burial will be in Oak Groves Cemetery.
