Mary Susan Wessel, 64, of Cape Girardeau passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

Susan, as she was called, was born May 10, 1950, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, daughter of Joseph F. and Rosemary Kruger Gambill. She and Dennis Wessel were married March 5, 1977, in Cape Girardeau.

She was a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University with a bachelor of science in biology. As a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren. Her second passion was shopping. Susan enjoyed life and made those around her laugh.

Loving survivors include her parents, Joe and Rosemary Gambill of Cape Girardeau; her husband of 38 years, Dennis; a son, Eric Wessel and wife Melissa and their son Owen of Columbia, Missouri; a daughter, Leah Cagle and husband Travis and their daughters Blaiklee and Kholbie of Springfield, Missouri; a brother, Joseph Gambill of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Roseann Reisdorph of Jackson, Margaret Chamberlain and husband Ethan of West Chester, Ohio, and Kathleen Sebby and husband Rick of Cape Girardeau.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time May 16 at St. Andrew Lutheran Church.

The memorial service will be at 10 a.m. May 16 at the church, with the Rev. John Dehne officiating.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to FISH volunteers of Cape Girardeau or St. Andrew Church.

McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau is in charge of arrangements.
