ORAN, Mo. -- Mary Louise Schlitt, 76, of Oran went to her heavenly home Monday, Oct. 7, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born April 7, 1937, in Union County, Ky., to Rufus and Mary Harlean Little Hart. She married the love of her life, Jerome Paul Schlitt, on Oct. 22, 1955, at Guardian Angel Church in Oran.

Mary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her family meant the world to her and she meant the world to her family. Mary was a wonderful cook. She was a cook at Guardian Angel Catholic School and Oran public schools. She also cooked for many weddings and church dinners.

Mary was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church, St. Ann's Sodality and the KCettes.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by five children, Jerry Schlitt (Tammy Seyer) of Chaffee, Mo., Malinda (Martin) Priggel, Carol (Pete) Dennis, Lori (Shaun) Dirnberger and Michael "Butch" (Jo) Schlitt, all of Oran.

She also is survived by 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Jeremy Schlitt of Ava, Mo., Amber Schlitt, Adriana and Jocelyn of Cape Girardeau, Justin, Lyndsey, Jackson, Madelyn and Lily Glueck of Kansas City, Mo., Josh Glueck (Emily Welker) of Oran, Ryan, Katherine, Andrew and Emma Dennis of Sikeston, Mo., Jordie Dennis (Amanda Cruz), Levi Dennis (Cassie Essner), Cody Dirnberger (Brittney Rhodes), Alex and Erin Schlitt, all of Oran; and a sister, Barbara (Richard) Limbaugh of Jackson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Melba Lois; and her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Germaine and Mose Schlitt.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran. Parish prayers will be at 5:30 p.m., and Knights of Columbus prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Guardian Angel Church, with the Rev. John Harth and the Rev. Randy Tochtrop as concelebrants. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
