Mary Gwyn Schlegel, 70, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2011, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born March 1, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of W. Curtis and Elsie Brune Voorhes. She and Jerry L. Schlegel were married March 5, 2000.
Mary graduated from Jackson High School and Office Training School in Cape Girardeau.
Her employment included the University of Missouri Extension Center, Procter & Gamble and J.C. Penney. She also owned and operated an antique and country gift shop, The Country Loft, from 1985 to 1994. The shop was next to her home outside Jackson.
She was a lifelong member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson, being baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church in Friedheim and confirmed at St. Paul. She was a member of the Christian Women's Club.
Survivors include her loving husband of almost 11 years, Jerry of Jackson; three daughters, Sherry (Terry) Willa Gamble of Williston, Fla., Beth Willa Moore of Cape Girardeau, Suzanne (Lee) McGruder Joilitt of University City, Mo; two grandchildren, Royce and Korie Gamble of Williston, Fla.; a brother, Don (Donna) Voorhes of Jackson; three stepchildren, Kim (Mark) VanMatre of Cape Girardeau, Kevin (Lynn) Schlegel of Wildwood, Mo., Stacy (Darrin) Meyer of Des Peres, Mo.; and four step-grandchildren, Stevie Buch-heit of Cape Girardeau, Grace and Anna Schlegel of Wildwood, Mo., and Joshua Meyr of Des Peres, Mo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Jerry (Mary) Voorhes.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9:30 a.m. to service time Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. at the church, with the Rev. Robert Henrichs officiating.
Burial will follow at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Paul Lutheran Church.
