ADVANCE, Mo. -- Mary Ward Rhodes, 94, of Advance passed away Wednesday, Aug. 31, 2011, at Advance Nursing Center.
She was born May 22, 1917, at Zalma, Mo., daughter of Oscar Cleavland and Eliza Ellen Bess Ward.
Mary was a schoolteacher 31 years. She was a member of Advance United Methodist Church, and a member and past matron of Order of Eastern Star. She was a trained hospice volunteer.
She and Glenn Rhodes Sr. were married Dec. 11, 1936, in Jonesboro, Ill. He preceded her in death Dec. 18, 1993.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Glenn and Velma Rhodes II of Bertrand, Mo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Marcia and Terry Heuer of Seattle, Marilyn and Kenneth Garner of Advance; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Velma Ward of Advance; nieces and nephews, Donna Wagner, Bill Ward, Sonnie Fulkerson, Rex Rhodes, Don Rhodes and Angela Palatz.
A graveside service was held Friday at Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Advance United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jerry Willer officiating.
