Mary Elizabeth Jones Ray, 96, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Tamms, Ill., passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Lutheran Home. She was born July 4, 1915, in Caruthersville, Mo., daughter of Charles H. and Emma May Nix Jones. Mary was a former member of the Red Hat Society and former member of a homemakers extension club. She enjoyed oil painting, crafts and flowers...

Mary Elizabeth Jones Ray, 96, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Tamms, Ill., passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012, at the Lutheran Home.

She was born July 4, 1915, in Caruthersville, Mo., daughter of Charles H. and Emma May Nix Jones.

Mary was a former member of the Red Hat Society and former member of a homemakers extension club. She enjoyed oil painting, crafts and flowers.

She and Oliver Ray were married Nov. 11, 1938, in Cape Girardeau. She and her husband owned and operated Ray's Grocery Store in Unity, Ill., 20 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two brothers.

Survivors include nieces and nephews, Dallas (Bonnie) Brown of Farmington, Mo., Mary (Van) Dillow of Tamms, Sandra Tayne, Linda Jones, Joe Paul Jones; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Saturday at Jones Funeral Home in Tamms.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Verlee Eaker officiating. Interment will be in Lindsey Cemetery in McClure, Ill.
