Mary Jane O'Shea, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau after an extended illness. She was born in Cairo, Ill., on Aug. 19, 1914, the daughter of Alice Petit Stoddard and James Hatcher, who preceded her in death. She and Michael P. O'Shea Sr. were married on Oct. 16, 1942. Mary Jane O'Shea, 91, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau after an extended illness.

She was born in Cairo, Ill., on Aug. 19, 1914, the daughter of Alice Petit Stoddard and James Hatcher, who preceded her in death. She and Michael P. O'Shea Sr. were married on Oct. 16, 1942. "Big Mike" died in 1997.

They had a son, Michael Jr. of Cairo, who survives.

Mary Jane was active in St. Patrick's Church, which she joined after her marriage. She was employed at Hayes Freightline, Snower's Manufacturing and the Alexander County Courthouse during her husband's tenure as state's attorney. She was a lifelong member of the Alexander County Democratic party.

In addition to her son, she is survived by her devoted sister, Elizabeth Archie Aydt, of Cape Girardeau.; her sister, Ruth Carrington of Richmond, Calif.; her dedicated nieces, Elizabeth Pace and Sarah Aydt and their families; nephew Tom Aydt and his family; niece, Diane Holder and her family; nephew Jim Carrington and his family; niece Jean Moss and family; several wonderful cousins including Mrs. Joyce Pearman of Jackson and Mrs. Ann (Dean) Potts of Florida and grandsons, Ryan and Todd.

She was blessed to have many good friends and helping hands throughout the years.

She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Glynn and Robert, and sister Dora Grindler.

Friends may call from 8:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m., with the Rosary at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. A funeral mass will follow at 11 a.m. at St. Patrick's Church with Monsignor William McGhee as celebrant, and interment directly following at Calvary Cemetery in Villa Ridge, Ill.

Donations should be made in memorial to the Cairo Public Library or St. Patrick's Church.

The Barkett Funeral Home of Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
