Mary Elizabeth Magill, 85, of Cape Girardeau died Thursday, May 9, 2002, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born June 30, 1916, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of William T. and Kitty Baird Doherty. She and John C. Magill were married Aug. 27, 1938, in Cape Girardeau. He preceded her in death Dec. 27, 1951.
Mary Elizabeth earned a master's degree in education from the University of Missouri. She taught at Washington School several years, and at University High School 20 years.
She was a member of First Christian Church, and had served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. She was a 64-year member of P.E.O.
Survivors include a son, John C. Magill Jr. of Merrimack, N.H.; a daughter, Molly Magill of St. Ann, Mo.; a brother, William Doherty Jr. of Silver Spring, Md.; two grandchildren, Brooke Magill of Red Wing, Minn., Todd Magill of Chanhassen, Minn.; and a great-grandchild, Gabrielle Magill of Red Wing.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Lari Grubbs will officiate. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
