Mary A. Loos, 82, of Jackson passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Dec. 18, 1932, at Neelys Landing, daughter of Ernest and Ava Marie Rumfelt Cathcart. She and Louis A. "Bud" Loos were married Jan. 22, 1954, in Jackson. He passed away Aug. 25, 1997.
Mary lived all her married life in Jackson. She and Bud were co-owners with Robert and Margaret "Puddy" Hoffmeister in Loos and Hoffmeister Construction Co. in Jackson. She was a member of Emanuel United Church of Christ, Bethany Circle and American Legion Auxiliary, all in Jackson. Mary loved to write poetry, and had a book published with many of her poems. She enjoyed going to garage sales and loved every minute spent with her grandchildren.
Loving survivors include two sons, Louis G. "L.G." (Cathryne) Loos II of Kirkwood, Missouri, and Robert L. (Mary) Loos of Jackson; a daughter, Margaret Loos-Polk (husband, James Polk) of Katy, Texas; a brother, Donald Cathcart (friend, Melva Baker) of Oak Ridge; four sisters, Margie Stroder (Floyd) Haas of Cape Girardeau, Lena (Sam) Johnston and Betty Joan Pickens of Jackson and Dorothy (Gerald) Rowland of Bonne Terre, Missouri.
Also a half brother, Troy Holifield of Charleston, Missouri; a half sister, Jerry (Charlie) Briggs of Redmond, Oregon; three grandchildren, Jessica (Brian) Ramsey of Bell City, Missouri, Katie Loos of Sikeston, Missouri, and Samantha Loos-Polk of Katy; a great-granddaughter, Sadie Ramsey; two stepgrandchildren, Jason Kenney of St. Louis and Dawn (Tyler) McFarland of Fenton, Missouri; five great-stepgrandchildren, Brennan, Seamus, Devon, Ryan and Peyton McFarland of Fenton.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Cathcart.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Mindy Kiepe and Sam Roethemeyer officiating. Interment will be in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to Emanuel United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.
