BENTON, Mo. — Mary Elizabeth Lincoln, 82, of Benton passed away Saturday, May 20, 2023, at Saint Francis Medical Center surrounded by her family and friends.
She was born Aug. 23, 1940, in St. Louis to William and Sarah Aronoff Kannady. After graduating high school, she was a clerk for the U.S. Army until she married Jimmy Lincoln in 1979 in St. Louis. They built a life together in Benton for more than 25 years. During that time, she worked as a cook at various local establishments until she retired from food service at Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Mary was known for her sassy wit and generous spirit. She found great joy in preparing meals for her family and friends. She also delighted in crocheting and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her stepdaughter, Janie Nothdurft; three grandchildren, Christin (Brad) Dush, John (Sarah) Nothdurft and Jeremie (Laura) Nothdurft; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany, Cameron, Andrea and Dereck Dush, Taylor and Lee Nothdurft and Eve and Elise Nothdurft; along with several nieces and nephews, and dear family friends, Danny and Darlene Ray.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jimmy Lincoln; six brothers, William, Robert, Norman, Ralph, Albert and John Kannady; and five sisters, Virginia Kannady, Violet Herget, Kay Brooks, Elsie Chambliss and Janet Steve.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 22, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 23, at Unity Baptist Church in Benton, with Pastor Dennis Lowe officiating. Burial will be at IOOF Cemetery in Charleston, Missouri, immediately following the funeral.
