BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Mary Alice Jane Layton, 75, of Bloomfield died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at her home. She was born March 28, 1926, in Peel, Ark., daughter of Willis "Poppy" and Malinda Smothers Merriman. She and Raymond Everett Layton were married Jan. 22, 1949. He died Nov. 2, 1981...

BLOOMFIELD, Mo. -- Mary Alice Jane Layton, 75, of Bloomfield died Tuesday, May 29, 2001, at her home.

She was born March 28, 1926, in Peel, Ark., daughter of Willis "Poppy" and Malinda Smothers Merriman. She and Raymond Everett Layton were married Jan. 22, 1949. He died Nov. 2, 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Doyle Layton of Essex, Mo., Willis Layton of Dexter, Mo.; three daughters, Lois Carmack and Joyce Hall of Essex, Parzee Baker of Monett, Mo.; two stepsons, A.W. Layton of Sikeston, Mo., and R.D. Layton of Rockford, Ill.

Also surviving are five brothers, George Merriman of Dugginsville, Mo., Joe Merriman of Searcy, Ark., Russell and Silas Merriman of Judsonia, Ark., Guy Merriman of Gregory, Ark.; two sisters, Ermalee Jackson of Leachville, Ark., Joyce Jackson of Manila, Ark.; 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, a sister, and a grandchild.

Friends may call at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Chuck Newell will officiate. Burial will be in Link Cemetery near Bloomfield.
