Mary Jansen

LEOPOLD, Mo. -- Mary Anna Jansen, 88, of Leopold passed away Sunday, March 2, 2014, at her home, surrounded by family.

She was born Nov. 29, 1925, at Leopold, daughter of George J. and Bernadine Vandeven Hinkebein. She and Walter Joseph Jansen were married Oct. 8, 1946. He passed away Jan. 22, 1997.

Mary taught the fourth-grade religion class 25 years. She was a member of St. Ann's Sodality, St. John's Catholic Church, St. John's Ladies Quilting, Knights of Columbus 5898 Auxiliary, St. John's prayer shawl ministry, and Legion of Mary. She was a 4-H leader, Cub Scout den mother, and was 2014 Friends of the KC's honoree.

Survivors include five sons, Ambrose (Mary), Arnold (Abbey), and Anthony (Janet) Jansen of Leopold, Alphonse (Teresa) Jansen of Advance, Mo., Andrew (Cindy) Jansen of De Soto, Mo.; four daughters, Christina (Lawrence) Diebold of Scott City, Celestine (Bob) Chierek of Festus, Mo., Cecilia Deck (Elmer) Georger and Catherine (Cyril) Nenninger of Leopold; 33 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Abraham; a brother, Louis Hinkebein; and two sisters, Maria Hinkebein and Lucile Seiler.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill, Mo. Parish prayers will be at 4 and KC rosary at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Catholic Church, with the Rev. William Hennecke officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are requested for Food for the Poor or a charity of choice.
