Mary E. Haupt, 84, of Cape Girardeau passed away Friday, March 4, 2016, at the Lutheran Home.
She was born May 2, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, to Andrew and Emma Reed Brasher. She and Johnnie Haupt were married June 10, 1950, at the home of the Rev. A. J. Langston in Cape Girardeau.
Mary was a 1949 graduate of Cape Girardeau Central High School. She worked at the former Ralph Edwards Coat Factory and in the fabric department of the former Sterlings, both in Cape Girardeau. She also worked several years as a Republican polling judge in Cape Girardeau County.
Mary took utmost pleasure in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She greatly enjoyed homemaking, but was especially fond of the Christmas season and went to great lengths to decorate for her family. Her hobbies included cooking, embroidery, sewing and various types of crafting.
Loving survivors include her husband of 65 years, Johnnie of Cape Girardeau; three children, Johnnie Steven “Steve” (Kathie) Haupt of Jackson, Lana (the late Lewis “Butch”) Pierce of Maryland Heights, Missouri, and Pam (Larry) Wendel of Elizabeth, Colorado; seven grandchildren, Johnnie D. (Jeanette) Haupt, Robert (Kim) Haupt, Thomas (Nikki) Haupt, Mindy (Daniel) Belue, Jeremy (Liz) Pierce, Christopher (Shellie) Wendel and Kelsey Wendel; 16 great-grandchildren, Isaiah, Devyn, Aidyn, Graisyn and Nolyn Haupt, Jordan, Joshua, Jonathan, Jacob and Julia Pierce, Tommy and Kensington Belue, and Wyatt, Emma, Lonnie and Evelyn Wendel; and four siblings, Jerry (Madeline) Brasher of Maryland, Tennessee, Grover (Nancy) Brasher of Alton, Missouri, Pat Engelhart of Hagerstown, Maryland, and Martha Bollig of St. Charles, Missouri; two sisters-in-law, Mollie Wright and Beulah Crites of Jackson; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a son-in-law, Lewis “Butch” Pierce.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Joel Kidwell officiating. Burial will be at Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the American Cancer Society.
