CAIRO, Ill. -- Mary Kathryn Greaney, 93, of Cairo died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at Daystar Care Center. She was born Aug. 13, 1904, in Cairo, daughter of John and Katherine Moran Greaney. CAIRO, Ill. -- Mary Kathryn Greaney, 93, of Cairo died Sunday, Aug. 2, 1998, at Daystar Care Center.

She was born Aug. 13, 1904, in Cairo, daughter of John and Katherine Moran Greaney.

Greaney received an undergraduate degree from St. Mary's College, and a master's degree in English from Southern Illinois University.

She was a teacher at Cairo High School and was yearbook sponsor many years. She had also taught at Camelot School.

Greaney was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Patrons Club, Cairo Historical Association, and served on the Cairo Public Library Board many years.

Survivors include four nephews, John Greaney III of Barnhart, Mo., Michael Farrin of New York City, John Farrin of San Diego, Calif., Richard Farrin of Columbus, Ohio; three nieces, Leslie Clarke of Cleveland, Ohio, Eleanor Wolfe of Fairfield, Ohio, and Laurie Anderson of Washington, D.C.

She was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 5 p.m. Thursday. The rosary will be recited at 7.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Church, with the Rev. Jerome Fortenberry officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Villa Ridge.
