MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Mary L. Gowen, 92, of Marble Hill passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Woodland Hills Nursing Center in Marble Hill. She was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Sheperdsville, Kentucky, the daughter of Almer and Amanda Brown Burke. Mary had been an inspector at the Inland Shoe Factory in Advance, Missouri. MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Mary L. Gowen, 92, of Marble Hill passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2019, at Woodland Hills Nursing Center in Marble Hill.

She was born Sept. 11, 1926, in Sheperdsville, Kentucky, the daughter of Almer and Amanda Brown Burke.

Mary had been an inspector at the Inland Shoe Factory in Advance, Missouri. Later, she became a school cook for the Zalma (Missouri) School District.

She was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church in Zonton, Kentucky. She attended Berrong Baptist Church near Zalma. She enjoyed cooking, sewing and making quilts.

Mary and Clifford Gowen were united in marriage Nov. 30, 1945, at Piggott, Arkansas, and he preceded her in death Dec. 2, 2001.

Survivors include four sons, Daniel (Sue) Gowen of Many, Louisiana; Donald (Donna) Gowen of Leopold, Missouri; Bob (Lisa) Gowen of Glen Allen, Missouri; and Jerry (Susie) Gowen of McGee, Missouri; two daughters, Patricia (Roy) Cross of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, and Janet (Greg) Sechrest of Marble Hill; 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and four brothers.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Funeral Chapel in Advance. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Dan Overton and LeeRoy Hefner officiating. Burial will follow at Morgan Memorial Park in Advance.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
