CHAFFEE -- Mary Elizabeth Whitaker, 85, of Chaffee died Saturday, May 11, 1996, at the Chaffee Nursing Center. She was born April 25, 1911, in Piggott, Ark., the daughter of Vernon and Nora Smith Lehman. She married Harland C. Whitaker on June 18, 1932. He died Oct. 25, 1959...

CHAFFEE -- Mary Elizabeth Whitaker, 85, of Chaffee died Saturday, May 11, 1996, at the Chaffee Nursing Center.

She was born April 25, 1911, in Piggott, Ark., the daughter of Vernon and Nora Smith Lehman. She married Harland C. Whitaker on June 18, 1932. He died Oct. 25, 1959.

Whitaker owned and operated Whitaker Hardware in Chaffee from 1952 until 1978. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Chaffee.

Survivors include a son, Ronnie Whitaker of Chaffee; a daughter, Marilyn Lanpher of Springfield; a brother, Samuel Lehman of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Wilma Jinks of Piggott; five grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother and grandson.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Piggott City Cemetery.
