SIKESTON — Mary Ann Halter, 77, of Sikeston passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, May 5, 2024, at her home. She was born Jan. 26, 1947, to Leonard and Jackie Alexander Lowes in Cape Girardeau. On Jan. 8, 1966, she married Andy Halter Jr., at Old St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau. ...

SIKESTON — Mary Ann Halter, 77, of Sikeston passed away peacefully surrounded by her family Sunday, May 5, 2024, at her home.

She was born Jan. 26, 1947, to Leonard and Jackie Alexander Lowes in Cape Girardeau. On Jan. 8, 1966, she married Andy Halter Jr., at Old St. Vincent’s Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.

She was a 1965 Notre Dame High School graduate.

Mary Ann was a military wife and traveled the world with her family. After her husband’s retirement, she was the bookkeeper for Halter Transport for 20 years.

She enjoyed camping, cooking and spending time with her family.

Loving survivors include her husband of 58 years; a son, Kevin (Nikki Crosnoe) Halter of Jackson; a daughter Sherri (Chris) Shrum of Cape Girardeau; six grandchildren, Kristen Shrum, Matthew Halter, Isabell Halter, Natalie Shrum, Faith Halter and Emily Shrum; four brothers, Jim, Steve, Kenny and Greg Lowes; sister-in-law, Edie Lowes; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; father- and mother-in-law, Andy and Thresa Halter; three brothers, Richard, Timmy and David Lowes; and two sisters, Betty Jane Lowes and Sara Gramm.

A celebration of life will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

A private burial ceremony for the family will be at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.

The family would like to thank Mercy Hospice for the care given to Mary Ann.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Mercy Health Foundation Southeast in care of the Mercy Cancer Center of Cape Girardeau.
