CAIRO, Ill. -- Mary Louise Abell, 93, of Bowling Green, Ky., died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Bowling Green Medical Center. She was born in Cairo, daughter of Harry H. and Millie Hubbard. She married Raymond Shirley Abell, who preceded her in death. CAIRO, Ill. -- Mary Louise Abell, 93, of Bowling Green, Ky., died Sunday, March 16, 2003, at Bowling Green Medical Center.

She was born in Cairo, daughter of Harry H. and Millie Hubbard. She married Raymond Shirley Abell, who preceded her in death.

Abell was a 1923 graduate of Illinois College in Jacksonville, and received a master's degree from Southern Illinois University in 1956.

She was with Cairo Public Schools 30 years, having been a sixth-grade teacher, principal at Lincoln Elementary School, teacher at Cairo Junior High School, and retired as curriculum coordinator of the school system.

Abell was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Bowling Green, and its Presbyterian Women's Association. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church in Cairo.

Survivors include a daughter, Shirley Schoen of Scottsville, Ky.; a son, Sam Abell of Wickliffe, Ky.; a sister, Grace Kell of Ocala, Fla.; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo after 11 a.m. Thursday.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Kelly Cox officiating. Burial will be in Green Lawn Memorial Gardens at Villa Ridge, Ill.
