Martha Marie Wittmer of the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau fell asleep in Jesus' arms Monday, Jan. 6, 2003, following a brief illness.
She was born Aug. 24, 1909, in Chicago, daughter of John and Martha Veit Schulz. She was 93 years old.
After marrying the Rev. George W. Wittmer April 9, 1932, Martha spent the greater part of her life an active Lutheran pastor's wife in St. Louis.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and her husband enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Europe and the Holy Land.
A first-class cook, her home was always open to family, visitors and friends. She enjoyed creating gifts for her many friends, crafting candles, framing pictures, and designing jewelry.
Daughter of a Lutheran pastor, she was raised in Chicago with 12 brothers and sisters.
She is survived by a son, Ron Wittmer of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, four grandsons, and two great-granddaughters.
Her husband and a daughter preceded her in death.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Arnold, Mo.
The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Warren Miller will officiate. She will be buried in St. John's Cemetery beside her beloved husband.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church in Arnold, the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau, or Southeast Hospice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Ford and Sons Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
