Martha Smith

Martha L. Smith, 78, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, July 29, 2007, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born May 20, 1929, in Charleston, Mo., daughter of Edward and Pearl Crawford Chappell. She and James Smith were married Feb. 25, 1950. He died April 17, 1992.

Smith was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include a daughter, Linda Mons of Cape Girardeau; three sons, Steven James, Charles Dennis and Michael Keith Smith, all of Cape Girardeau; a stepdaughter, Judy Craigmiles of Illinois; a brother, Ray Chappell of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Billie Guard of Cape Girardeau; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded by her parents, a brother and a great-grandson.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. William L. Burke officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
