CHARLESTON -- Martha Belle Slaten, 70, of Charleston died Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at her home.
She was born April 20, 1929, in Mississippi County, daughter of John and Bertha Limbaugh Roach. She and Hal Warren Slaten were married Sept. 26, 1946. He died Nov. 25, 1970.
After the death of her husband, she assumed ownership and operation of Mississippi County Bowling Lane. She had also been a Green Thumb volunteer with Charleston School District, and a teacher's aide at Hearnes Elementary several years.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, and was treasurer of the Wednesday Night Bowling League many years.
Survivors include a son, Teddy Slaten of Jonesboro, Ark.; a daughter, Tammy Hedge of Charleston; a brother, John Roach of Nashville, Tenn.; two sisters, Margaret Forbey of Charleston, Bettie Bawcum of Henderson, N.C.; and three grandchildren.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston after 4:30 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Gerald Collier officiating. Burial will be in IOOF Cemetery.
