DANVILLE, Va. -- Martha E. Knox, 90, of Danville died Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, in Danville Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 7, 1921, in Jackson, daughter of Carroll W. and Mabel Talley Knox.
Martha was a member of Moffett Memorial Baptist Church where she served as librarian 17 years. She had lived in Danville since 1989. Martha served under the Southern Baptist Home Mission Board in Birmingham, Ala., from 1945 to 1949, and served with the Foreign Mission Board in Tokyo from 1950 to 1961. She was a high school librarian at Jackson High School from 1963 to 1984.
Those left to cherish her memories are a sister, Judith Knox Mantiply of the home; nephews, Mark E. Mantiply and wife Joyce of Glen Allen, Va., and David V. Mantiply and wife Trenace of Danville. She was also a loving great-aunt to Stephanie L. Harding and husband Greg and Jeffrey C. Harding and wife Mandy of Mechanicsville, Va., Matthew B. Mantiply and wife Brittany of Charleston, W.Va., Samuel D. Mantiply, Mollie A. Mantiply and Joseph N. Mantiply, all of Danville.
The funeral was held Jan. 1 at Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Larry Glover-Wetherington officiating. Private interment followed.
Norris Funeral Services Inc. and Crematory in Danville was in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Cooperative Baptist Fellowship through Moffett Memorial Baptist Church, 1026 N. Main St., Danville, VA 24540.
