Martha Howard Jones, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was born Nov. 6, 1914, in St. Louis, daughter of Frank I. and Gertrude Moore Jones. Jones was a 1937 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She received a master's degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and did postgraduate work at George Peabody College...

Martha Howard Jones, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Nov. 6, 1914, in St. Louis, daughter of Frank I. and Gertrude Moore Jones.

Jones was a 1937 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She received a master's degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and did postgraduate work at George Peabody College.

She taught English and speech at Holcomb High School in Dunklin County, Sikeston High School, and at Southeast University.

Jones was the first woman elected president of the Southeast Missouri Teachers Association, and was a state and county committee member of the Democratic Party. She was a member of First Christian Church.

Survivors include a sister, Eva Lee Moore of Manhattan, Kan.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
