Martha Howard Jones, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. She was born Nov. 6, 1914, at St. Louis, daughter of Frank I. and Gertrude Moore Jones. Martha Howard Jones, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 13, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

She was born Nov. 6, 1914, at St. Louis, daughter of Frank I. and Gertrude Moore Jones.

Jones was a 1937 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She received a master's degree from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and did postgraduate work at George Peabody College.

She taught English and speech at Nell Holcomb High School, Sikeston High School and Southeast Missouri State University.

Jones was the first woman elected president of the Southeast Missouri Teachers Association and was a state and county committee member of the Democratic Party. She was a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include her sister, Eva Lee Moore of Manhattan, Kan.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
