CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa -- Martha Lucille Harmon Joiner, 78, formerly of Illmo/Scott City, passed away peacefully Tuesday, April 27, 2021, at MeadowView Memory Care Village in Cedar Rapids.
Born March 18, 1943, in San Francisco, California, to Vyron and Lillian Boehme Harmon, Martha was a graduate of Illmo-Fornfelt-Ancell schools and a 1965 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University.
Married to William Joiner in 1966, she worked as a medical lab technician in Clayton, Missouri. Returning to Cape Girardeau, she worked at her family's business and eventually took over ownership of Harmon Furniture & Appliance Co. in Illmo/Scott City. She and Bill owned Solar Pools and various rental properties in Cape Girardeau.
She is survived by her sister, LaDonna (Jim) Suttle of Santa Barbara, California; cousins, James (Linda) Harmon of Cedar Rapids; Jacqueline Guth of Festus, Missouri; Susan Solovic of Jupiter, Florida; Keith Boehme of Cincinnati, Ohio; Kay Boehme of Chicago, Illinois; and Arlin (Sue) Doering of Fergus Falls, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bill Joiner; and son, Troas.
Martha enjoyed playing the piano, bible study, walking and visiting with her many friends. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel in Cape Girardeau. Growing up, she was a member of Eisleben Lutheran Church in Illmo/Scott City, where she was church organist.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. May 20 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at the chapel. Graveside service will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
The family requests memorial donations go to Good Shepherd Lutheran Chapel.
