CAIRO, Ill. -- Martha E. Sackberger, 83, of Carbondale, died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 1992, at Jackson County Nursing Home in Murphysboro.

She was born Dec. 12, 1908, in Cairo, daughter of Judge W.F. and Deborah Ross. She married W. Edward Sackberger, who died in 1969.

Sackberger was a retired housemother for several fraternities at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Cairo, and Beta Sigma Phi sorority in Carbondale.

Survivors include a daughter, Donna Hartmann of Carbondale; a son, Louis E. Sackberger of Charleston, Mo.; seven grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Barkett Funeral Home at Cairo is in charge of arrangements.
