OAK RIDGE, Mo. -- Marshall Allen Smith, 62, of Oak Ridge passed away Monday, Oct. 15, 2001, at his home.
He was born April 27, 1939, son of George A. and Lillie Newell Smith. He and Barbara Hamlett were married Sept. 16, 1960. She survives.
Other loving survivors include a son, Allen Smith, and grandson, TJ Smith of Oak Ridge; two brothers, Jessie Smith of Marble Hill, Mo., Wilburn Smith of Oak Ridge; three sisters, Fredia Cornell of Millersville, Mo., Betty Williams of Cape Girardeau, Edna Seabaugh of Jackson, Mo.; and a host of friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
In his early career Marshall worked three years as a truck driver for Gibbar Brothers in Perryville, Mo. He retired in 1998 from Operating Engineers Local 513 in Cape Girardeau. He received his 30-year pin from the union this past summer. Marshall had a career in the timber business many years.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1958-60, spending 18 months in Germany.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge in Cape Girardeau, Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441 and American Legion Post 158 in Jackson.
Marshall had some special friends, his "ex-buddy" Lloyd Masterson and Bob Goza, with whom he enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. And while stationed in Germany, he spent time with Harold Thomas, his Army buddy who now resides in Hillsboro, Ill.
Friends may call McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be held at 7:30.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Revs. Gerald Hamlett and Doyle Randol will officiate. Burial will be in Old Salem Cemetery near Millersville.
