ORAN, Mo. -- Mark Mosebach, 60, of Oran died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Nov. 26, 1949, in Kirksville, Mo., son of Dr. Herbert J. and Nancy Roy Mosebach. He and Rebecca Eastwood were married July 30, 1977.
Mark attended grade school in Kirksville and Chaffee, Mo. He graduated from Oran High School in 1967. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Thailand during the Vietnam era from 1969 to 1973. He graduated in 1975 with a degree in criminal justice from Southeast Missouri State University. He served on the St. Louis and Perryville, Mo., police forces. He also was a conductor on Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Co. for almost 30 years before becoming ill.
He battled cancer for more than five years before it claimed his life. As difficult and harsh as the disease was, he never complained and was optimistic until the end.
Mark's family was his whole world. He was a true family man and a real gentleman. After his girls, Mark was most proud of his military service, a topic he loved talking about. His other loves were fishing, riding his Vespa, being outdoors, feeding his birds and having his morning coffee.
He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He never failed to thank soldiers for their service to our country.
Mark maintained a huge wealth of knowledge in many subjects. He was unbeatable in Trivial Pursuit. He enjoyed current events, especially politics. Fox News was a staple in his daily routine.
He is survived by his wife, Becky; his two daughters, Audrey Mosebach of Springfield, Mo., and Carrie Mosebach of St. Louis; two brothers, Charles Mosebach of Benton, Mo., and Bruce Mosebach of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a baby brother.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the American Cancer Society in Mark's memory.
There will be a graveside service at 3 p.m. today at Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Ed Carter officiating. Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel of Oran is in charge of arrangements.
