Mark S. Dumey, 63, of Jackson, passed away Sunday, Oct. 10, 2021, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born August 31, 1958, in Cape Girardeau, to Ralph L. and Winifred "Winnie" Summers Dumey. He and Laura Stearns were married Sept. 26, 1981, at New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson. Two children were born to their union, Lindsey and Tyler.
Mark was a 1976 graduate of Jackson High School, lettering in football, basketball and baseball. He was a 1981 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University, receiving a bachelor's degree in computer science.
After their marriage, Mark and Laura resided briefly in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where Mark was employed at Phillips Petroleum. In 1984, they returned to Jackson and Mark became employed for Drury Hotels in Cape Girardeau, serving as the manager of corporate applications.
Mark was a lifelong member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson and a longtime member of the Jackson Tribal Council. He was instrumental in coaching and developing youth sports in Jackson.
Mark and Laura enjoyed domestic and international travel together and with family and friends. They took an annual vacation with their grandchildren and Mark always created lasting memories by planning fun excursions wherever they went.
Loving survivors include his wife of 40 years, Laura Dumey of Jackson; two children and their families: Lindsey Wulfers of Cape Girardeau and her children Kameron, Brynn, and Leyton Wulfers, Kennedi Benavente and Avery Dumey; and Tyler (Kelley) Dumey of St. Louis and their daughter Caroline; a brother, Mike (Betsy) Dumey of Cape Girardeau; his mother-in-law, Georgia (the late Bob) Stearns of Jackson; two sisters-in-law, Lisa (Dave) Haupt of Oak Ridge and Traci (John) Cothran of Branson, Missouri; paternal aunt, Mary Dumey; maternal uncle, Boyd Summers; maternal aunt, Elvira Urhahn; nieces and nephews: Lauren, Caitlyn, Alex, Logan, Kaleigh, Abigail, Ariana; and godchildren, Lauren and Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his father-in-law.
Mark gave the gift of life to others by being an organ/tissue donor.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at New McKendree United Methodist Church, 225 South High St., in Jackson. The family will receive guests at the church from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday.
Memorials may take the form of contributions to the Jackson Tribal Council or New McKendree United Methodist Church.
