Marjorie VanWinkle, 72, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at her home.

She was born March 13, 1936, in Quincy, Ill., daughter of Charles and Violet Walters Lumley. She and Morris VanWinkle were married Feb. 5, 1955, in Hannibal, Mo.

VanWinkle owned and operated a small country store and was postmistress for the U.S. Postal Service 10 years in Bynumville, Mo. She later moved to Southeast Missouri in 1975 and worked as a bank teller, then ended her working career as a grocery clerk at Food Giant, retiring in 1998.

She was a member of Mount Auburn Christian Church, taught Sunday school many years and was a member of the Tuesday Morning Ladies Group.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Robert VanWinkle of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Sandra Conklin of Cape Girardeau, Cindy Rouggly of Jackson; two sisters, Louise Ann Parrish of La Belle, Mo., Connie Helenthal of Keokuk, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Andy Conklin, Ken VanWinkle and Lucas Rouggly officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
