Marjorie Pearl Ludy McDonald, 91, of Jackson died Sunday, Sept. 28, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her family.

She was born April 15, 1923, in Emporia, Kansas, to John Lewis and Mable Northrup Ludy. She grew up on the family farm a few miles east of Emporia.

Shortly after she graduated from high school she followed her beloved sister, Dora, to San Francisco. She attended a junior college while working for the Federal Reserve Bank. She met the love of her life, Dr. Eugene F. McDonald, at the Baptist church where she was an usher. He was stationed at the Presidio in San Francisco at that time. They married April 14, 1944, in Indio, California.

Soon after their marriage, Eugene was deployed to the European Theater during World War II and Marjorie moved back to the family farm to await his return. In 1947, Eugene and Marjorie moved to Jackson where he began his private medical practice and together they raised their family.

Marjorie was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson. She was a member and former president of PEO, Chapter DJ in Jackson. Additionally, she served in various capacities from Cub Scout leader to band festival host. She loved to play bridge, knit and crochet, read, bowl and fish, but most of her activities centered on her family. She was an accomplished cook and hosted numerous family dinners and holidays, which she loved.

Survivors include a son, Dr. Eugene McDonald Jr.; three daughters, Susan Hutteger (Lyle), Dr. Cheryl Milde (Dr. Mark Milde) and Jan McDonald Harris; eight grandchildren, James McDonald (Natalie), Charles McDonald (Samia), Sarah McDonald, Tim Hutteger (Ashley), Dr. Greg Hutteger (Ellen), Jonathan Milde (Dr. Bess Puvathingal), Dr. Bradley Milde (Zephra) and Leslie Harris Rizzotti (Chris); 11 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Betty Ludy (Ross), Evelyn McDonald Donnell and Elizabeth McDonald Mitter; and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Her husband preceded her in death in 1990. She was also preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ada Ludy Mabrey and Dora Ludy Wininger; and three brothers, Louis, Robert and Ross Ludy.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.

The family wishes to thank several devoted and humble caregivers who became like family to her, also Dr. Donald Edwards and Southeast Hospice's entire staff, and especially her longtime physician, Dr. Michael Jedlinski. In addition, Dr. Olivia Aranha, Dr. Miller and Dr. John Moll were wonderful during her breast cancer treatment.

Memorials may be made to Southeast Hospice, local food bank and Hope Children's Home.
