Marjorie L. Baker, 87, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006. She was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Jackson, to Orville and Esther Godwin. She grew up and attended school there. She married Ralph H. Baker July 6, 1945, in Jackson. The couple later moved to St. Louis, then returned to Jackson in 1950 where she worked at the hosiery mill. ...

Marjorie L. Baker, 87, died Tuesday, June 20, 2006.

She was born Oct. 17, 1918, in Jackson, to Orville and Esther Godwin. She grew up and attended school there. She married Ralph H. Baker July 6, 1945, in Jackson.

The couple later moved to St. Louis, then returned to Jackson in 1950 where she worked at the hosiery mill. The family moved to Midland, Texas, in 1963. She worked at Bargain Fair and then S.S. Kresge for 20 years before retiring in 1986. She later worked as the "Popcorn Lady" at Bank One.

She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and former member of the choir.

Marjorie is survived by a son, Steve Baker of Corpus Christi, Texas; two daughters, Mary Hendricks and Marty Burns of Midland; a sister, Maxine White of Jackson; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister.

The funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Crestview Baptist Church, with the Revs. Sandra Fussell and Ty Morris Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Park.

Ellis Funeral Home in Midland is in charge of arrangements.
