Marilyn Rose Garner died Nov. 25, 2020 at home under the care of Southeast Hospice.
She was born Dec. 14, 1934, in Cape Girardeau to Albert B. Dankel and Irma Umbeck Dankel.
She attended Franklin School and graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in May 1952. She then attended Southeast Missouri State College for a year.
She married James D. Garner on Dec. 20, 1953, at the Evangelical Church of Christ where she was a lifelong member. She was a former officer of the church for seven years.
Marilyn was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club for more than 60 years as she loved flowers and gardens.
She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, James Garner; one sister, Judy Breckenridge of Texas; children, Marta (Gerard) Bunten of St. Albans, Missouri, Candice (late Jay) Wilson of Kirkwood, Missouri, and Drew Garner, and daughter-in-law, Tamra Garner of Jackson; grandchildren, Steven (Hilary) Garner, Abigail (Zack) O'Keefe of Kansas City, Missouri, Nathan Wilson, Trenton (Amy) Garner, Trevor (Maddy) Garner; great-grandchildren, Alexus Garner Sawyer Garner and Barrett O'Keefe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Laura Burke and two son-in-laws.
Many, many thanks to hospice for taking exceptional care of her during her final days.
A private funeral service will be held at Ford and Sons Funeral Home with the Pastor Debra Tracy officiating. Burial will be at Fairmount Cemetery.
