MOUND CITY, Ill. -- Marie Waite, 93, of Mound City died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Nov. 7, 1913, in Clinton, Ky., daughter of Arthur and Virginia Bugg. She was raised by grandparents, Colonel and Sammy Remley and C.C. and Molly Bugg. She and Claude "Pistol" Waite were married in 1946. He died in 1964.
Waite was a 1933 graduate of Mounds Township High School. She was employed many years at Connell's Department Store, worked at the Panama Canal during World War II, and worked 11 years at the utility office in Mound City, retiring in 1976.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mound City and St. Mary's Sodality.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Cabrini Bierbaum of Mound City.
She was preceded in death by a half brother.
Friends may call from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Barkett Funeral Home in Mound City.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Church, with the Rev. John Agbasiera officiating. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery.
