MOUND CITY, Ill. -- V. Marie "Ree" King, 61, of Mound City died Friday, April 19, 1996, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
She was born Aug. 27, 1934, in Mound City, the daughter of Cleveland and Beatrice Forbes. She was married to Fate King Jr.
King was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church, where she participated in Sunday school and the church choir. She attended Shawnee Junior College, where she received an associate degree in business.
King was employed by the Cairo Public Utility Co. for 19 years until illness forced her retirement. She also had worked as a social worker, bookkeeper and insurance agent. She was a member of the Mound City Library Board and the Gate City Court 17.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Anthony King of St. Louis; three brothers, Abner Gene Forbes and Cleveland Forbes, both of Mound City, and James Forbes of Baton Rouge, La.; and four sisters, Almena English of Olympia Fields, Wilma Josephine McKinney of Hazel Crest, Shirley Johnson of Homewood and Sylvia Long of Chicago.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and one daughter.
Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the United Free Will Baptist Church in Mound City.
The funeral service will be at the church at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Albert Ingram Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Spencer Heights Memorial Park in Mounds.
