CAIRO, Ill. -- Marie Alberta McRoy, 91, of Cairo passed away Friday, July 12, 2013, at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Jan. 24, 1922, in Cairo to Gilbert R. Swobada Sr. and Alice Hulen Swobada. She married Lewis F. McRoy Sr. and he preceded her in death.
After attending high school, Marie became a court stenographer and a partner in Gilbert R. Swobada and Company. Marie was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Cairo, Xi Beta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and Luthernanns of the Immanuel Lutheran Church; she served on the alter guild at church. She was an avid bridge player.
Marie is survived by a son, Lewis F. McRoy Jr. of Marion, Ill.; three nieces, Nancy (Eddie) Doss of Mounds, Ill., Patricia (Stan) Berry of Indianola, Miss., and Laurie Johnson of Vicksburg, Miss.; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a brother, Gilbert R. Swobada, Jr. and his wife, Dimples.
Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Gussella Walston and Alice Johnson.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado, Ill., and from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday at Mighty Rivers Worship Center in Cairo.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. Larry Potts officiating. Burial will be in Spencer Heights Cemetery in Mounds, Ill.
