CHAFFEE -- Marie Gertrude Batts, 95, of Chaffee, died Tuesday, Nov. 3, 1992, at Jackson Manor in Jackson.
She was born Jan. 1, 1897, at James Island, S.C., son of Robert and Marie Gertrude Gillican Oswald. She and Riley C. Batts were married March 12, 1922. He died Nov. 29, 1978.
Batts was a retired registered nurse from Marine Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Gladys Gaunce of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Robert Oswald of Tennessee; five grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter and four sisters.
Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Charles Grant officiating.
Amick-Burnett Funeral Home at Chaffee is in charge of arrangements. There is no visitation.
